10 things you need to know about...

... the Return of Bextor

1. It is all kicking off with the release of a song called 'Catch You', which is all about being a bit of a mental stalker. It is a proper pop song by a proper popstar.

2. 'Catch You' is a Cathy Dennis track which sounds like Blondie doing 'No Good Advice'. Cathy's demo appeared on the internet in the autumn, and Sophie's finished version appeared on the internet earlier today.

3. The video is VERY GOOD INDEED and features Bextor looking for something. The video was directed by Sophie Muller, the woman behind about a million other amazing videos, and Beyonce's 'Deja Vu'.

4. 'Catch You' is the best thing Sophie has ever done...

5. ...apart from some of the other bits on her new album ('Trip The Light Fantastic'), but that is all TOP SECRET and cannot be discussed for the time being, or at least until it leaks onto the intranot which will probably be in about three days.

6. Let's hope she doesn't go round swinging dead foxes all over the place this time.

7. She is not blonde any more.

8. That's basically about it for the time being, so let's just recap on the two main points here:

9. Sophie is back.

10. 'Catch You' is amazing.

Sophie Christmas plans

We caught up with Sophie recently to find out exactly how she’ll be spending Christmas and New Year. Read her answers below, and keep an eye on the site in January for more updates from the lady herself…

What are your Christmas plans?
This is the second year I’m doing it myself as in I’m having people to my house. I ordered my turkey a little while ago - you have to be quick to get your name down. I’ve got my mum, my stepdad, my brother, my sister, Richard’s parents, his sister and my grandparents, plus a couple of others. Because we’ve got Sonny knocking around it does mean we have lots of excitement. The focus is on him for a lot of it. This will be the first year we’re doing Father Christmas and all that, so that will be sweet. It’s mostly just a lot of eating and drinking and presents like everyone else I guess.

Will you play charades?
Actually I think we’re going to be doing Buzz – it’s a quiz game on the Playstation. It’s our game of choice at the moment and I remain unbeaten so I hope I don’t get beaten on Christmas. After cooking the turkey I deserve to win anyway.

What presents are you hoping for?
Normally I don’t have any idea, but I had quite a few suggestions this year. I’ve seen some nice shoes and I need a new purse, I keep chucking my money in my handbag – really impractical. I’d like some luxury gifts like silk pyjamas. I’m lucky enough to have all the basics.

What have you bought for Sonny?
Sonny has actually asked for a pterodactyl. We’ve managed to narrow it down to a toy pterodactyl and a couple of goldfish. We do appreciate that a goldfish isn’t just for Christmas.

And what are your plans for New Year’s Eve?
I’ll be performing on the BBC programme at Somerset House, which I’m really looking forward to. I think it’ll be really fun. I’m on about quarter past midnight, so I hope everyone doesn’t turn off after the bells. It’s going to be my first TV appearance for this song, but my mind will be taken off all the nerves because there’ll be lots of fireworks and I’ll be jumping around. Hopefully it’ll be a really great way to start the New Year. For me anyway, next year is all about this album.

Sophie's Christmas

"If you're wondering what Sophie will be doing on Christmas day, I can reveal all!

Whilst listening to a discussion on Radio 2 the other day about the importance of having a "Family Christmas", I suddenly heard Janet speaking via the telephone.
She was saying how much she loved having all the family around for Christmas and how important it was to do so.
However, she let slip that for the first time in many years she would not be spending Christmas at home.
No, infact the whole family will be spending Christmas Day at....SOPHIE'S!!

Yes it's true, Sophie will be using her culinary skills to cook for the whole family on the big day!"

Sophie on The Feeling's singles cover?

Nope, that's not Sophie's face on Never Be Lonely cover or her legs on Love It When You Call cover. During one of the weekly Catch-Up with Richard, a fan asked him:

Anna Bros would like to know if it's the feet of your wife (Sophie Ellis-Bextor) on the 'Love It When You Call' cover?

Richard: "No. But that's so weird, because quite a few people had already asked if it's her face on the 'Never Be Lonely' cover. She does wear shoes like that, so people must think that we are gradually trying to reveal her over the course of our singles cover. But I can categorically state that that's not that case".

The (MOTO) RED Sessions gig for World's Aids Day last Friday (Dec 1st) was a great success. 'The Feeling' and 'Mika' were on top form, playing to a full crowd of approximately 500.

The band were overjoyed with Dave Berry announced that The Feeling were the most played band on the radio this year...

(...) Sophie Ellis-Bextor also came down to support her hubby and was dancing away when The Feeling performed on stage.

Shelly Poole on Sophie

Shelly Poole, who has collaborated on Catch You, Sophie's next single, was interviewed and said a bit about her collaboration with Sophie:

"I think she is just writing with loads of artists to try and get a good sound going. I think she is going to do well. I am not quite sure what her sound is at the moment. She has got a fantastic voice!"

Sophie has given her support to Tommy's - The Baby Charity in their attempt to get the number 1 slot at Christmas!
It's a weird re-working of the "12 days of Christmas" and you read all about it and watch the video at The Metro website.

Sophie gets The Feeling

The boys make sure the returning pop princess will never be lonely...

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is preparing to do battle on the pop charts again in 2007 and has roped in her hubby's band to help.

Mr Ellis-Bextor, aka bassist Richard from The Feeling told MTV.co.uk the boys have sprinkled their magic on a couple of his missus's new tunes.

"It was good fun, we're like a big family really," he said. "If you listen to the tracks in a song-writing sense then you'll be able to hear our influence and the way that Dan (Gillespie, The Feeling frontman) has worked with it. But stylistically the tracks are nothing like us at all."

The proud husband added, "It's disco-pop but in a modern context - what Sophie does best. It's brilliant, definitely her best album to date."

Sophie releases new single 'Catch You' in February 2007 and the album 'Trip The Light Fantastic' in April.

We're looking to forward to a bit of Ellis-Bextor glam back on the hit parade...

Sophie attends Scissor Sisters' show

Scissor Sisters finished their UK tour (at which they've been setting attendance records) on the 26th at Wembley Arena in London. Kevin Tachman, the Sisters' tour photographer sent us a few shots from the festivities and the party afterwards, including this photo of Jake Shears getting cozy with a very happy Sir Ian McKellen.

Brit songstresses Sophie Ellis-Bextor (pictured on the left) and Lily Allen also showed up at the post-concert soiree.

Sophie shuffle

Apple's iPod shuffle went on sale worldwide on Friday (3 November) last week - and celebs were as anxious as anyone else in their itch to get hold of one of Apple's diminutive £55 music players.

(...) Macdonald was followed shortly later by platinum-selling singer-songwriter, Sophie Ellis-Bextor. She lined-up at the store to get her own player, which she sees as "just perfect for a musician to put their latest mixes on".
