Sophie creates a storm with sedutive ads

Source: Hello Magazine

After a two-year break from the limelight, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set to make her comeback in more ways than one. Aside from releasing a new single and album she will also be the face of fashion store Monsoon's Create A Storm ad campaign.

The striking Brit, whose little boy Sonny was born in 2004, has been taking time out from her music career to focus on motherhood and married life with husband Richard Jones, bass player for The Feeling. But fans won't be able to miss the poised 27-year-old over the coming months as her svelte figure adorns billboards around the country.

Known for her individual sense of style, the Murder On The Dancefloor star is following in the footsteps of Jodie Kidd and Sophie Dahl in modelling for the high-street clothing chain. "Besides being very proud of the photos, I am also looking forward to wearing some of the clothes," she revealed. "I especially love the vintage-inspired dresses".

Daughter of former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, Sophie began her music career at 17 when she joined indie group theaudience before going solo. Her adverts for Monsoon coincide with the September release of her latest single Catch You, followed by her album Trip The Light Fantastic, which she has been working on steadily away from the spotlight.

"Since having Sonny and getting married, I am strangely more focused than ever and just wanted to take my time and come up with something that I could be proud of, no matter what its fate may be," she explains.

Singer Sophie comes back on model couch

Comeback queen: Sophie Ellis-Bextor is hoping the new ad will get her noticed.

As comebacks go, it is one likely to get her noticed. At least that's what Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be hoping with this shot for a high street fashion chain.

The singer, 27, has been out of the spotlight for two years after giving birth to son Sonny and marrying The Feeling's bass player Richard Jones.

She plans to return in the autumn with a new single and album and a lead role in an advertising campaign for Monsoon.

The star who sang Murder On The Dancefloor follows in the footsteps of Jodie Kidd, who wore just a strip of lace to pose on a horse for the label.

Sophie rejects reality TV offers

Source: virgin.net

According to Virgin.net Sophie has been bombarded with big money offers to do reality TV shows.
However Sophie says that she has never once been tempted by the offers made her way, saying that her career is as a serious singer.

She reveals: "You wouldn't believe the amount of offers. It's been ridiculous. I'm a singer and that's where my career starts and stops.
The offers kept getting higher and higher but I was never tempted."

Richard on Sophie

Every week, The Feeling's official website (www.thefeeling.co.uk) interviews one of the band's member and last week it was Richard's turn, Sophie's husband.

Richard was asked if he fancied Sophie before he met her and read what his answer was:
"You know what, I remember seeing her on TV when I was 17 when she was in theaudience and thinking, 'she is fine'. And then I ended up marrying her! How mad is that?

Your questions answered: part 5

Mark4SEB: Do you have any plans to produce your own calendar in the years to come?
I imagine if enough people want it then it can happen. But would you really want every month to be a Sophie month?! I suspect not.

SophieLover: What do you think about all the new trends in clothing styles these days? I saw you had a bit of a 'hippy' look a while back. Now you've gone back to the 'classics' a bit (in your latest photos). What image can we expect on the new album?
Hippy? Good grief, I don’t think so! I'm still wearing lots of stuff I've had for years. If I looked hippy at any point I'm sorry. Bad day or something. From the new album both aurally and visually I am picking up where I left off. I.e. my style hasn't changed I don't reckon.

Kim Andrews: We all change of course, artists or not; but I was wondering how you might feel you have changed since achieving success? Also if you feel you are handling it better with time?
I think I handle it OK because I am lucky enough to have wonderful support around me in the form of family and old friends. As to if I've changed, you'd have to ask them. They'd probably say I'd always been a spoilt little madam!

maub’dib: How do you feel when you are rated as one of the world's most beautiful women? That's the way I feel about you.
You are a sweetie. Thank you for the compliment, maub'dib. What a lovely note to end on!

Your questions answered: part 4

Boogie_miss: What has been your favourite or most memorable part in making the new album?
The whole process has been a pleasure as I put myself under no pressure and so really took my time. I've worked with many fabulous folk, written over 70 songs and was always home from work in time to put Sonny to bed. Pretty ideal, really.

Tommy: The Pet Shop Boys once asked you if they could write a song for you !! Is there any possibility you may consider it now on your third album? You seem to have quite a similar style to their music.
I'm a big fan and yes that would be fun. I'd prefer to write with them, though. Makes it more personal.

Aurora Flor: You seem to be into clothes pretty much the way I am. What are some of your favourite labels, whether they be well known ones or not so well known?
I'm very unfussy and whilst I love and appreciate some designer stuff I'm not a snob and have a lot of Primark, Topshop, H&M...If I like it, I like it and it doesn't matter where it's from. If I could have a supermarket sweep anywhere though I guess it'd be a toss up between Christian Louboutin for shoes and Chanel for clothes.

andsko: How's it been making this album, and what's been your biggest inspiration/influence to it?
This album has been unique to the other two for me in that I was under no pressure to write it within a specific time frame, not that some evil record company put me under pressure before, I did it to myself. But since having Sonny and getting married I am strangely more focused than ever and just wanted to take my time and come up with something that I could be proud of, no matter what its fate may be. Richard and Sonny are obviously massive influences and inspirations too, but also taking a step back from my work made me see more clearly what I love to do and where I think my strengths are. That's what this album is about for me.

Rose. Will u ever get another tattoo?
Maybe, but I'm not planning one or anything.

Your questions answered: part 3

Just my good time: What would you say is your best music video that you have done? I must say I loved Won’t Change You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favourite is hard to choose. I've now made 12 videos which means the one for the first single from this album will be lucky 13! I guess Take Me Home was a bit of a high point as I basically got to make my fantasy video. Men in suits, dancing, lots of costume changes...

Stinky_pete: My question is totally random but hey....... what cd do u have playing in your car right now?
Well I'm listening to lots of mixes of the album tracks as I'm nearly finished with the recordings but I also have on the last Basement Jaxx album, the Arcade Fire album, a mix cd of iTunes downloads, Hard-Fi and Regina Spektor. Quite a mish mash, eh?

Gus-latino: Do you have pets?
I have two adorable but eccentric cats. Kenickie and Rizzo.

Sophie fan in Oz: Is a world tour in store? I first noticed you on Rove Live in Australia nearly 4 years ago! I hope you visit here again because you have many fans here.
I'd love to go back to Australia. I'll be doing a live tour when the album is out, in the new year.

T Kraayvanger: What is your favourite single of 'theaudience?'
Blimey let me open that file in my head... favourite single is 'If You Can't Do It When You're Young, When Can You Do It?'

Your questions answered: part 2

Watford_boy: I was wondering if there was a specific theme to the new CD artwork? Like Read My Lips had a lotta lipstick and Shoot From The Hip seemed centred around photography and cameras.
This new album is called Trip The Light Fantastic, which is an old fashioned phrase meaning ‘to dance’. I guess the artwork is going to have a nod to dancing and disco, but only in passing. I'm not actually striking a pose on the album cover. Anyway, Mr impatient, wait a little while and you'll see for yourself...

Luis G.: Are you planning to make it big in North America as well, like Natasha Bedingfield, and Dido have?
If they want me, fine, but I seem to be a rarity for a singer in that I'm missing the 'must break America' gene. I am very happy to have had the success I've had, where I've had it. More of the same would be lovely.

Dave H: Is there any chance that your lovely young son Sonny will do any "guest appearances” on your album or tour? How are his guitar and drum lessons coming along?
Sonny adores music. Which is lucky as he's bombarded from all angles with musicians, instruments and songs. He's not on my album but he is on my husband's album. Actually, I know I'm his mother, but Sonny is a bit amazing with a guitar. He will only play with a pick and he strums away making little chord shapes with his tiny two-year-old hands.

bextor19GO: How did you choose the album title?
To be honest I can't quite recall. I've had this title in mind for nearly as long as I've been writing the album! I think I was writing lyrics and this phrase popped into my head whilst I was trying to think of a new way to say dancing. It didn't make it as a lyric but I think it'll be happy with it's more prominent album title position.

Groovejet2003: In my spare time I write a lot of poetry. What inspires you to write your lyrics?
Anything and everything. Conversations I've had with friends, evenings with my husband, books I've read, films I've seen. It's a bit like a diary set to music.

Your questions answered!

MixedUpGirl: Do u think you'll be touring to places you haven't been to yet?
Well I still haven't been to Japan and I really hope to go there with this album. Otherwise, I have to admit I've been very lucky and my work has taken me all round the globe. One of my proudest achievements is that I now have a stamp or two on every page of my passport. Well, these things make me happy. What can I say!

SOPHI(E)sticated: Are there any duets on the album??
Nope. I always quite like the idea but then when it comes to it I get carried away when I write and I forget to put in the part that someone else might do! One day I think it would be really fun. I've always wanted to do a female duet just because they're a bit harder to come by.

Pierree: Who's ya fave writer and which of his/her books is your fave?
I'm a bit disloyal and I rarely read a writer twice. There are a few exceptions though. I love Daphne du Maurier (favourite book - Rebecca) and Vladimir Nabokov (favourite book - Lolita).

Storm: I would like to know how you got so fit? Got any secrets? (I'm busy now with losing weight now but in a healthy way and doesn't go very fast)
Well I certainly didn't lose the baby weight over night! It took around 6 months of gym 3 times a week and eating healthily. I still go to the gym now and though I'd rather be reading a magazine, it does mean I can eat pretty much what I want. Boring but true.

Chronos: Is there any role in a film you would have liked to play? Why?
Well I have a bit of a soft spot for musicals so playing Sandy in Grease or Adelaide in Guys and Dolls would have been a lot of fun. Lovely outfits and lovely songs. Kind of the framework for how I'd like my career to be!

Sophie catch-up: part 6

In the final part of our interview with Sophie, she talks about summer 2006 and the special message she'd like to give to her fans...

Will you be making it to any festivals this summer?
Hopefully I’ll go to V. I love V and I’m going to take Sonny along if I can. He went last year, when he was tiny. He slept through most of it!

And what’s going to be the Sophie Ellis Bextor look for summer 2006?
Well the good thing is that because I’ve been away for a while I can wear all the stuff I wore for the first album and everyone will think it’s new! [laughs]. I’m sure I’ll find excuses for shopping, but at the moment it’s just trawling back through all of the earlier stuff, being economical.

And finally, have you got a message for your fans?
I’m just really impressed and happy about the fact that they’ve been so patient but also so supportive. I know you can’t take anything for granted, but it’s really nice to know that there’s some people waiting to see what I come up with. I’m having a good week with feeling confident about what I’ve done and so hopefully it’ll be worth the wait. I’m just looking forward to doing more stuff so they’ve got lots of things to talk about on the messageboard again! [laughs]

Sophie catch-up: part 5

In this week update, Sophie chats about gigs, films and her summer holiday plans.

Have you been to any good gigs recently?
I go to gigs all the time. I see The Feeling loads obviously [Sophie’s husband is the bassist], and my brother’s band, Marlow Brown. I went to see Sigur Ros not long ago, that was lovely. I also went to see this band called The Boy Who Cried Wolf, they’re quite folk-y. I’ve seen quite a diverse mixture of things really. The Feeling have been doing a lot of London gigs so I always go along and support them, that’s been my main gigging. They’ve been supporting The Charlatans, which really took me back to my indie youth, it was quite a weird feeling!

Seen any good films?
I went to see The Squid and the Whale, I really enjoyed that. It’s one of those really nice films where it’s just a really good script and really superb performances. There’s not a whole lot happening in it, but I really like those films where you get to know the characters.

Have you got any summer holidays planned?
No, from here on in it kind of gets a bit busier really, I’ll be doing videos and putting out the album soon, and to be honest I’d rather keep going and do the work. A holiday would be lovely but I just want to get on with it really.
