JANUARY Trapped in a hatbox
Sophie modelled for Rankin's Seven Photographs That Changed Fashion, in which he recreated seven of his favourite images and
Sophie was the model for a Cecil Beaton recriation.
In a catch-up for her official website, she talked about 2008, her Christmas and pregnancy, stating she was feeling really well.
Sophie was invited to write a blog at Sparkling Pregnancy, in which she would share pregnancy tips.
Richard and Sophie attended the première of Revolutionary Road. In a lovely interview, Sophie said that if she could meet an actor,
she would like to meet WALL-E!
Sophie attended South Bank Awards in which she presented an award.
FEBRUARY It's a baby boy
Sophie and Richard decided to put their house for sale in November 2008 for £1,65m - they had to cut the price to £1,495m...
Soho Revue Bar where Me & Mrs Jones used to DJ had to close down because of financial crisis.
Sophie's gig in Moscow was cancelled to unknown reasons.
Later, it was revealed that Sophie had to rush to the hospital after being diagnosed with pre-eclampsia again. She gave birth on February 7 to
baby boy Kit Valentine Jones, born 9 weeks earlier.
Janet Ellis said that both Sophie and Kit were doing fine.
A few days later, Sophie posted on her official website saying that everything was ok and that in April, Kit would be at home with them.
Sophie joined Oxfam, which sells clothes people no longer want and with the money raised, they help poor people around the world.
Her collaboration with Junior Caldera Can't Fight This Feeling leaked.
Rumours about Sophie and The Freemasons releasing a single together turned out to be true and was confirmed by The Freemasons themselves. They
would release Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer).
The Freemasons said they were still working on the final version of the song and that they would first play it on Mardi Gras Festival in March.
MARCH Eat it up, Soph!
First pictures of Kit came out.
Fascination said that Sophie's 4th album tracklist hadn't been decided yet, but assured that Syncronized, Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)
and Off And On would be there.
Sophie and Richard finally sold their Victorian house.
Sophie appeared on the TV show Heston's Tudor Feast, in which she joined other artists for a Tudor-style dinner.
Heartbreak (Make Me Dancer) was choosen as the song of the day by Popjustice.
Dan Gillespie Sells from The Feeling said that Sophie was working with them on a duet.
APRIL The duet with The Feeling
April started with Paul, from The Feeling, saying that Sophie and The Feeling were working on a song together, but it was very early
stages. He said that they were working on a new song and it seemed to suit a girl's voice. Paul also said that Sophie might end up on more songs or
no songs.
In another blog entry, Sophie explained how she found out she was suffering from pre-eclampsia again. She also mentioned that Kit has red
hair just like Sonny.
On her Twitter, Sophie said that she had finished her 16th video: Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)! Earlier, she had mentioned that
she would be doing some dancing.
Later in April, Dan from The Feeling said on a catch-up that they would have to record the duet again, but Sophie was busy with
Kit. However, they were looking forward to it as it's The Feeling's first guest vocals.
MAY The mucky make-up
The Freemansons announced that Heartbreak's release was pushed back a week because the video post-production was taking longer than
anticipated.
Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) artwork was finished though.
In a catch-up, Sophie said that she was literally in her hospital bed when her manager asked her if she could do the Heartbreak video in April.
Sophie said that the 4th album was shaping up really well and that the plan was to put out another single after Heartbreak, maybe
in August and then the album out later this year.
Heartbreak video was first aired and Jameela met Sophie on the set of the video.
Sophie opened a hospital wing at Chelsea and Westminster hospital where Sonny and Kit were born. She opened a new private maternity unit
called The Kensington Wing.
She said that she was delighted to accept the invitation as a way of saying 'thank you' to the doctors, midwives and all the staff.
Sophie performed Heartbreak at National Lottery and then attended Ivor Novello Awards with the same make-up. She said on her
Twitter: "I've worn the same eye makeup for 36 hrs now. Time to take it off. It lasted a TV, a party and an awards ceremony. Not bad!".
In her last blog, Sophie said that she was happy to say that Kit was doing really well and that he was putting on weight.
She also mentioned that Sonny was loving his little brother and that she made sure she could spend quality time with him, so he wouldn't feel
he's lost her.
According to her, the 4th album was 90% done and it was dance/pop/electro sound and that definitely it was not time for her to hang up the
microphone yet.
JUNE Heartbreak, make me a dancer, dancer...
For theaudience's fans, June started with the greatest gift of all: eight unreleased songs written for the
second album were released on YouTube.
Sophie and Richard attended Lulu Guinness 20th anniversary party and Simon Aboud book launch party. On her Twitter, she
said that Richard and her did not intend to wear co-ordinated outfits - they only realised in taxi.
In an interview to Fabulous Magazine, she said that everything that happened in both Sonny and Kit's birth has brought Richard and her
closer together. And whatever has happened to her, she just loves how her life has turned out.
Sophie also mentioned that when she's feeling masochistic, she googles "I hate Sophie Ellis-Bextor" and that if anyone asks her on the streets if
she is Sophie Ellis-Bextor, she puts on a French accent and says "non".
Me & Mrs Jones were finally back at the decks at Madame Jojos with a very special guest, Ana Matronic from
Scissor Sisters.
Sophie performed Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) and gave interviews to some TV shows: GMTV, London Tonight, BBC1 Breakfast, Totally Saturday.
She also performed at G-A-Y and Summer Fair in Russia.
Sophie mentioned that she was working with The Freemasons in another song.
JULY Under the starlight
Johnny Douglas uploaded Take Me With You on his MySpace, a song Sophie wrote with him.
Sophie performed once again at T4 On The Beach - she sang Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) and Groovejet (If This Ain't Love).
Me & Mrs Jones kept DJing.
In another interview, Sophie said that she was still planning to release a new album before the end of the year and that she was working with
Calvin Harris, Freemasons and Metronomy in a very dance pop, quite electro album.
She took part in iTunes Festival in the end of the month in which she sang a new song called Starlight, which the fans
absolutely loved.
AUGUST New release, old songs
In an interview with Calvin Harris, it was mentioned that Off & On was scheduled to be Sophie's next single. It was never confirmed
by Sophie herself though.
Sophie gave an interview to Company Magazine saying that she was not worried about losing her pregnancy weight.
She also said that she's learnt a lot since she started her career at 17 - she's more open to other people's ideas and that she wouldn't slag off
other singers or bands now.
Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) was nominated for Download Music Awards 2009 as best single.
Sophie did a cover of It's My Party (And I'll Cry If I Want To) with Dan, from The Feeling at his mini-fest to raise money to OWAU.
iTunes Festival EP was released without Starlight. Her fans got a bit frustrated as the whole idea of an EP seemed pointless.
SEPTEMBER Go party, Soph!
In September, Sophie kept herself busy by attending launch parties and opening the PSP Southampton Boat show. No news on the 4th album.
OCTOBER The debut as a host
HMV changed the release date of Sophie's 4th album to 2010. Fans still expected a single out in 2009.
Then, Sophie announced on her Twitter that the new single would be out in January 2010 only and that she was working in Los Angeles.
Fascination confirmed that Sophie's new album would be released in the beginning of 2010 as Sophie was still recording new tracks.
She was in LA working with Greg Kurstin and then she would go to Sweden to record with Kleerup.
Sophie did a couple of gigs in Moscow and sang Starlight again.
It was announced that her official website would be revamped and it'd be launched over the next two months.
A new song called Love Heist was featured in Ann Taylor's Fashion Show. However, Fascination said that it would not be her
next single. It was actually a demo from Trip The Light Fantastic.
Sophie attended Q Awards along with Richard and also debuted as a host in The Scottish Style Awards.
NOVEMBER Songwriting is finally over
Sophie joined lots of celebrities in name of charity. She got her feet printed for the New for Old campaign, which helps to save babies' lives.
On her Twitter, she announced that the songwriting was over and that in January it would go public. She also mentioned that she had written
another song with Freemasons, Biff and Hannah.
Sophie attended Emerald Ball where she also performed.
Other song titles came up: For Love written by Douglas, Ellis-Bextor and Poole - and Not Giving Up On Love written
by Buuren, Ellis-Bextor and Nervo sisters.
In the end of the month, Sophie took part in another campaign, the Destroy/Rankin project in which she destroyed her picture taken by Rankin
for music charity Youth Music.
DECEMBER A massive new single
Sophie attended some premières and launch parties.
In an interview, she announced that her new album would be out in February.
Her official website got a new look and changed to a blog format - it got a new forum as well.
The year finished with Fascination's tweet saying that Sophie's new single is going to be massive and a source said that her new
songs are better than anything she's done till date.
